If we have SSO setup, should my profile picture be pulled through or if not, we likely have an issue with our SSO set up?
I was looking to rely on this rather than setting up one with Gravatar.
Hey James, that's a good question! According to our docs which I wrote a while back when we introduced profile pics, your pics should be pulled across by your identity provider on Relevance AI in the builder platform: relevanceai.com/docs/admin/account-management/update-profile-info#… Were you referring to your profile picture in the builder platform (app.relevanceai.com) or here in the Community?
Would you be able to check if this works in the builder platform? Go to Profile, then click "Retrieve profile picture" if that's an option there for you!
Yeah that is super confusing! Even if the text says only Gravatar, do you mind clicking Edit on the Profile Picture section then Retrieve Profile Picture to see what it does? I've analysed our codebase and believe it should actually fetch the profile picture from your SSO provider, but the text in the builder platform and the docs are super misleading. I will definitely get those docs fixed and also the text in the platform if it works. We should also just have the ability to have profile pictures added automatically when you log in with SSO, which I’ll raise with the team!
Totally hear you that the text there is mentioning Gravatar and links to it, but I just want to double check that even if that text mentions it, if the 'Retrieve profile picture' option still works. I've created a quick demo that shows what I mean, can you follow these steps and let me know if it populates your profile picture from SSO, disregarding the text there that mentions only Gravatar? I know that's super unclear, and if this actually does pull your profile picture from SSO, I will be fixing that text in the platform today. app.supademo.com/demo/…?…
That's very helpful! I didn't realise it was blocked out entirely. I think I have everything I need to escalate and keep your account team in the loop here too, but I'll let you know if we should jump on a quick huddle. Let me investigate further and then tell you next steps, thanks for your patience!
Hey james.porter! Thanks for your patience, I've been analysing this one with all of my AI agents for the past hour and have gotten to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, our log in provider (WorkOS) which you set up SSO through doesn't actually seem to pull profile pictures from different identity providers, from your own to others. This is a known limitation of WorkOS that my AI agents found, and it looks like we need to build the ability to pull profile pictures directly from your service, which is quite a complex build. I've raised this as a bug with my engineering team to investigate further as I see it as a bug, over a feature request, as our documentation that I wrote with the original engineer who built profile pictures says that SSO profile pictures should be pulled and aren't, so I see this as a feature gap. He's since left Relevance, but I pulled our old conversations and he confirmed that this should work, but unfortunately isn't. I've also raised a separate feature request to ask for direct profile picture upload in Relevance, without having to use a third-party service (Gravatar). I'm also going to be removing mention of SSO profile pictures from our docs for the time being, as if this feature is broken, our documentation shouldn't be stating that it works! I've also kept your account team in the loop with all of this so they're aware that you ran into this issue and can chat with you about it. Right now, this means that in order to set a profile picture up, you will have to use Gravatar for the time being. I apologise for any inconvenience here! Profile pictures will only be surfaced when you look at pages like a list of members in an asset, project or org, or when you run an agent and see your conversation with it, as an FYI. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm here to help!
